Comparison
Orrerie Merchant beside a custodial processor.
A custodial processor collects the payment, keeps a balance for you and pays you out. Orrerie Merchant delivers the payment into wallets only you control. Each way suits a different business, and this page says which.
At a glance
The same six questions, asked of each.
The two other columns are BitPay and Stripe stablecoin payments. Every cell about them links to the page it was read from.

The page gives payout timing as varying by network.Source: Stripe's stablecoin payments page | There is no payout step. The payment arrives in your own wallet as the coin you chose to keep, normally USDC on Base. Orrerie does not pay out to a bank account. |

Its terms let it delay settlement or restrict access to settlement funds, and suspend or close an account without notice.Source: BitPay's terms of use | The page read does not say.Source: Stripe's stablecoin payments page | No. Orrerie can decline to serve you or to co-sign. That is never a hold on funds: with your browser key backup and your Orrerie app's backup words you can move them with the recovery tool, apart from one exception for now on Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin. |

What it means for you
Six differences, two sentences each.
No balance held for you
A payment is yours on the network from the moment it arrives, in a wallet that needs two of three keys, two of them yours. BitPay keeps a ledger balance until it settles and Stripe settles into your Stripe balance: until then you hold a claim on that company.
No payout cycle, and no bank
The payment arrives as the coin you keep, normally USDC on Base, and Orrerie sends nothing to a bank. If a bank deposit is what you need, BitPay deposits to your bank each business day and Stripe settles in your local currency.
Refusing is not holding
Orrerie can decline to serve you or to co-sign, but your browser key backup and your Orrerie app's backup words still move your money through the recovery tool, apart from one exception for now on Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin. BitPay's terms let it delay settlement or restrict access to settlement funds.
0% to Orrerie
The network's cost and Relay's route cost are, by default, inside the amount your customer is shown, so you receive your price in full. BitPay's pricing page charges a percentage and a fixed amount per transaction; the Stripe page read gives no fee.
Sell first, check later
You can sell at once within low limits, and a business check by Didit raises them; your customers are never asked who they are. BitPay's terms say it may ask for documents to verify identity.
Nobody can undo a mistake
Orrerie cannot reverse a send or recover a payment sent to a wrong address. Before a payment arrives Orrerie's servers decide where it is sent, and while it is converted it is with Relay: the custody page says both in full.
Said plainly
When a custodial processor is the better choice.
- You want money in your bank account, not crypto. Orrerie Merchant delivers crypto into your wallets and stops there.
- You do not want to keep keys. With Orrerie Merchant you keep a passkey, a backup file and your Orrerie app's backup words safe. Orrerie holds one key of three, so it cannot restore a wallet whose other two keys are lost.
- You want someone who can step in. If you ask, BitPay's terms let it send a refund, at its own discretion. With Orrerie Merchant a refund is always your own send.
- You need an outside security review of what you use. No outside firm has reviewed Orrerie Merchant. Its reviews are in-house.
